April 15 is not a Friday this year, nor is it ever the first of whatever day of the week it happens to be (Sunday, this year). In fact, for many people (independent contractors like myself definitely included), April 15 is the most dreaded day of the year--the day federal taxes must be filed. Oh no! We're in luck, though, because this year we'll be able to distract ourselves from such troubling events, at least for one night. For Sunday, April 15 is the night that Tanane Whitfield's new show at Glitch Gallery opens up.
Tanane Whitfield, who is both a painter and a tattoo artist, does wild, colorful work full of zany imagery that makes me think of Ren And Stimpy in its more cracked-out moments. For all I know, Mr. Whitfield is a totally mild-mannered sort in his day-to-day life, but I can't help but figure that if that's true, it's just because he's getting all the bizarre stuff out in his paintings. Regardless, this is undeniably the work of a great talent, and the opportunity to see it all in its full-size, full-color glory at Glitch Gallery this month is not one that you should miss. The opening reception begins at 7 PM on Sunday, April 15, at Glitch Gallery, located at 3313A W. Cary St. in Carytown.
