The full moon will occur technically just before midnight on May 5th, so unless you are out late on Saturday night, which is definitely a possibility, it will be experienced fully on Sunday May 6th. This full moon will be in Scorpio, which is best described as intense. Scorpio energy contains a quiet exterior, with strong, fast moving emotional undercurrents. It goes beyond the superficial. It’s deep. And sometimes dark.
This full moon is important to many of us because it’s in opposition to the sun in Taurus. Suddenly, for all of us, our source of esteem comes into focus. Failed relationships, old slights, and repressed pain from past experiences will suddenly make you feel exposed and vulnerable. But it’s also time to wake up. Open your damn eyes, and see through pretension and the masks that people wear. It’s a time to look more deeply into your own behaviors and your relationships with others. It’s a time to change yourself, and grow out of old habits. The light of the full moon can feel invasive… it will make even the rock-solid feel naked. Time to remove the rose-colored glasses. Scorpio is about death and rebirth. Out with the old!
Although Venus doesn’t go retro until the 15th, I’m bringing it up now because if you have any inclinations to change your style, or your physical appearance, you should make those efforts now. If you wait, you may regret what you changed, or spent. Also, the introspection that we’ll be experiencing during the full moon in Scorpio is a perfect precursor for what we’ll experience when Venus goes retrograde. Suddenly, old lovers and friends will reappear, or we’ll be reliving these relationships in our minds. We’ll be analyzing the things that went wrong, and maybe, thanks to the full moon, we’ll have some “ah ha!” moments that will shed light onto some old patterns and repetitive mistakes. Try and remember why things happened the way they did. Hopefully, we’ll be wiser for the experience. Forgive them, and yourself, and move on. If you can keep your emotions from swinging too far in either direction, May should be a pretty good month for relationships otherwise. Most of us are feeling pretty affectionate.
Aries/Aries Rising
The fiery ram has gotten into a bit of a trap. And it’s likely that it has just as much to do with finances as it does with relationships with others. In this society, money is power, for better or worse. Just keep in mind that sometimes what we see as being success is often at the sacrifice of personal happiness. When you lace up your running shoes, just consider whether or not the ends justify the means. In the next couple of weeks, I’d recommend that you slow down. Maybe even stop and smell the roses. You need to sort out some paperwork and more tedious details this week anyway. The full moon is going to be good for a little self-love and pampering. Go ahead and spoil yourself a little, and your hunny too.
Taurus/Taurus Rising
The Earth-treading bull may have undergone a kick in the pants recently, and it’s likely that it’s all bottled up inside. You’re probably also questioning why you are always so damn attracted to mystery and intrigue. After all, when the truth comes out, the fantasy of it all becomes all the more real. A little bit too real, isn’t it? High definition TV comes to mind. At any rate, May is a great time for you to be sincere with your words and actions. I mean, when isn't, really? If you have been keeping up with that steady hard-working attitude of yours, which I suspect you have, then you should start reaping some of those rewards in the coming weeks. Also, sweet Taureans, it seems that for you, everything involving the next few weeks is personal. And as far as that guy or lady is concerned, time will tell… when it damn well feels like it. Don’t worry, you’re patient.
Gemini/Gemini Rising
Both of you are endlessly nervous lately, but don’t worry so much. You have yourselves, after all. All jokes aside, there is something valuable in your dual nature, which we could all learn from. We all have dual natures within us, some more prominent than others, but my point is that if you can satisfy your own needs for the time being, and keep working towards one or three of your most favorite goals, you’ll see that all those scary what-ifs and buts will have expired. Here is something to keep in mind though: if you want something to change, you have to change something. Breaking patterns is the only way, because if you let somebody else do it for you, you’ll resent them for it. The full moon is going to bring about a bit of a portal for you. Somehow, the universe has brought about, or will bring about the right kind of personality type for you. Someone that has potential to understand both of you. Heed these words: only you can allow the somethings and someones of the past to affect your present.
Cancer/Cancer Rising
Water constantly changes and adjusts and flows and pools, but it ultimately takes the shape of its surroundings. Bottom line is that water needs structure to help it move, so it’s your job to choose your structures wisely, or you’ll end up pooled and stagnant. And remember also that people can only give you so much reassurance. You’re like a bottomless pit with that stuff, although you’ll never really admit it. And because you’re so damned closed off and guarded, most people don’t even realize how much you need. You have the support of your friends and family, so stop worrying. As far as your career, you’re beginning to see more clearly the projects that are going to be more profitable to you. Pursue them with all you’ve got. The moon will be full in Scorpio, and will bring some wild mood swings for you. Try not to think too much, or your own imagination will usher you into a tailspin. Some old slights are going to be brought up by this transformative phase, but it’s for your own good. May will be a good time for you if you stick to this mantra: everything changes, and so will I change.
Leo/Leo Rising
Even proud Leoneans can feel a little vulnerable now and again. You’ve recently taken a leap of faith of sorts, and you’re beginning to question yourself mid-air. Now isn’t the time and, like it or not, you took that risk. There is no point in doubting yourself now! Your unusual vulnerability can actually be somewhat endearing to others if you don’t seek too much ego-stroking. Too much stroking the kitty makes peoples hands tired. So relax and recline, fire feline, because May is going to be good to you if you let it. However, in order to take full advantage of this interesting phase you’re in, you will need to take a little time to assess where you are in life. Like it or not, none of us are getting any younger. None of us ever really feel fully prepared for the world, and all of us wonder how we could have prepared ourselves for the present, which used to be the future, in the past. That’s the funny thing about time.
Virgo/Virgo Rising
You must be asking yourself why, Virgo, is it that you are so drawn in by broken people? Is it seductive to feel needed? Better yet, does it give you a sense of self-satisfaction to organize the lives of others, even if your own life has suddenly become chaotic, and generally untidy? This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it’s certainly not a question of morality. Do consider that it isn’t really your responsibility to “fix” this person. But enough about them. You have been a force to be reckoned with in the past few weeks, Virgo, and people have been getting on your nerves left and right. You are a peace-loving sign, but at least these few weeks have been somewhat illuminating as far as where you stand with people, and more likely where they stand with you. May is going to reveal a more confident, and generally more badass version of you. You have been a workhorse as of late and some of you may even go international. Congrats! That is… after you sign some receipts.
Libra/Libra Rising
The scales are all over the place. One second, you are winning the chess game of life. You know everyone’s moves, and your conversations are all heading in a direction that is somehow going to benefit you. Not that you are being selfish. Most of the time, you make moves for your “people” as much as you make them for you. But the next second, you check your bank account, and you wonder how you’re going to pay rent. Here are some things to consider: don’t be a financial martyr or you’ll find yourself on the giving end more than the receiving end. It’s not that people don’t want to help you out, but many people simply don’t have the resources to return the favor. Also, your fiery nature sometimes causes you to lash out. If you make assumptions about people in the spirit of self-protection, then they will never have the chance to prove to you otherwise. Thus materializes a self-fulfilled prophecy. The full moon is going to be illuminating the balance of affection in your relationships with people. You’re going to be feeling affectionate, yet at the same time, becoming all too aware of a lack of balance wherever it is you are directing your affection. Spend some of that passionate energy in your creative pursuits.
Scorpio/Scorpio Rising
Faith. Trust. Death. Rebirth. Rinse. Repeat. If you’ve recently committed to someone, or are stepping that commitment up a notch, May will shower you with some planetary gifts. You should settle any major plans before Venus goes retrograde. The full moon at the end of the week is going to put intimacy into focus. Try not to obsess over the object of your affections. Nay, the person of your affections. That’s just it, isn’t it? People are not possessions, even if you romanticize the idea in your head. There is something seductive about the concept of ownership that has materialized into some interesting relationship patterns. I recently read an article about the role of dominance and submission in the fantasy lives of men and women everywhere, and I immediately relate these power plays to the nature of Scorpio. Keep it in check. The full moon in your sign is going to be an emotional ride, and now isn’t the time to put people through “tests,” as everyone is going to be more susceptible to the sway of emotions that you know all too well. Also, digging too deep into the psyche of others can be invasive, and somewhat hypocritical in nature considering you are a person that values privacy so much. So I’d suggest that you have a little faith, and let people surprise you.
Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising
Archers have been put through the wringer in a sense lately. Being the explorers and pioneers, and dreamers and philosophers that they naturally are, sometimes they have to step on a few toes, and burn down the debris in their way to make their paths in life. Things have been changing for you at a pace that would be unsettling for anybody. Right now, the best thing for you is to embrace some routine. Your focus on yourself lately hasn’t been uncalled for, but now is perhaps the time to start thinking about the spirit of giving. One of the benefits of putting others into focus for the time being is that you become mildly less aware of your own problems, even if just for a moment. You’re a powerhouse of motivation for others, but May might bring about a slow-down in your motivation. You may be running out of fuel, in a sense, but it’s likely that it won’t be fully felt until the weeks after the full moon. Think back to new moon in Taurus back in April, and whatever you set out to accomplish, try and wrap up the details before the end of the week. Full moons are times of fulfillment, and you're going to need the affirmation of a goal accomplished to help fuel you for the rest of May.
Capricorn/Capricorn Rising
It’s not that you aren’t an emotional being. In fact, you feel emotions just as strongly as anyone else. But Capricorn is a powerhouse of stability. The goat keeps his reactions to emotional highs and lows to a minimum, sometimes making you seem cold, which is far from the truth. For this reason, you’ll be slightly less vulnerable to the full moon in Scorpio, which is going to make others seem a bit “leaky” in their communications. At worst, these wild emotion swings of others will make you feel uneasy and a little out of place. You, after all, have your own daily struggles and financial discomforts to contend with. You’re probably just more likely to suffer n silence. Pluto’s position has assisted in accumulating some positive attention for you, and maybe some negative attention as well. Many single Capricorns have even met someone recently that is remarkably attractive to you. Either way, the first couple weeks of May probably won’t bring much activity. Hang in there.
Aquarius/Aquarius Rising
Water-bearers, you have got to find some sort of balance between your individual, idealized self and the people that live in the society. Are you have a little trouble sleeping lately? I imagine you’re fighting against your innate desires for some cute little domestic scene in your life. You’re wondering if you’ve been fooled somehow, by your own version of the way the world should be, and by the way that it actually is. Not everything can be planned out play by play. Unfortunately, we have to abide by some societal restrictions, and as profound as they are, your ideas aren’t always appreciated. But no worries, Aquarians--people are naturally drawn to you, especially as we approach the full moon. You are loved and appreciated, and the world will make some sense again soon, as long as you don’t treat the past as a crutch. I’d recommend that you wrap up your home improvement projects before the full moon, and keep that chin up. Take an Ambien, if need be.
Pisces/Pisces Rising
Something is welling up inside you making some sort of adventure into the unknown really attractive right now. You want to learn, to travel, to dive into the depths of the unknown and swim back to the surface with some new piece of wisdom and experience. Although this is coming from emotional currents, and isn’t necessarily practical now, you can thank Pluto for this influence. Right now you need to be reminded to trust yourself, Pisces. You have as much a right to believe in your own ideals as anybody else. You also have this thing called free will, which allows you to set your own ethical and moral outlines for the way your life should look. Remember this, fish: if you expect others to adhere to your own guidelines, you have to fill them in on your expectations. Pisces often sets some lofty ideals. Make sure you can fulfill your own ideals before you impose them onto others. Otherwise, people will surely stumble from the pedestal you place them on, and you’ll resent them for it. This full moon is good for your relationships of all kinds. It has the potential to be a bit steamy too, on an intimate level. Business-wise: contracts, publicity, networking, and travel will all be profitable to you, used wisely.
