Big Eyes - Back From The Moon 7" (Grave Mistake)
Big Eyes are a trio from Seattle who play a Porterhouse steak of 1970s punk. Some bites taste glam, others power pop, but all are beefy. Band leader Kate Eldridge has a sullen shout and her guitar parts favor palm-muted chugging, which means that listening to a Big Eyes album is a lot like playing Joan Jett’s version of “Cherry Bomb” on 45 on repeat. If that sounds like overkill, then I think you’re a twerp, but you’re in luck here: This record only has two songs on it.
“Back from the Moon” is slowed and anthemic and would be the perfect mixtape segue between Joan Jett and This Is My Fist. “I Don’t Care About Friday Night” is the quintessential b-side, blowing by, hook woven in. This was released by Richmond label Grave Mistake and “Back From The Moon” is streaming on the Alternative Press website. Check it out unless you don’t like fun.
