In the past year, the creative collective known as Girls Rock! RVA have been hard at work on making a difference within the musical community. Through organizing workshops, instrument drives, live concerts, and a multitude of other events, they have found a means of expanding the creative drives of female youth throughout Richmond. Along with all of this, they've spent time putting together a homegrown documentary that chronicled the accomplishments and the mission statement of the collection. After an initial showing at VCU’s Commons Theater, there was a hot demand for repeat screenings.
If you missed it the first time, start your weekend off right by going to Lamplighter to catch a glimpse of creative motion in action. At sundown, Girls Rock! RVA will be showcasing the documentary along with organizing a family friendly/block party event. The group is always in need of more instruments and they will have an instrument drive set-up at the block party. Even if you can't part with your instrument forever, they have made opportunities available where you can simply loan an instrument temporarily, until after their annual summer camp program has finished. Be a part of the future of art in Richmond by contributing to an exciting creative endeavor, or just by going to Lamplighter to show your support.
