Unfortunately, the battle for women’s rights, and specifically its effects on Planned Parenthood, will probably not see a conclusion in the immediate future. Thankfully, those fighting the good fight are a growing number, and their efforts continue to flourish across the city of Richmond. In particular, Gallery 5 will be hosting A Festival Of Rights, an event to benefit Planned Parenthood, presented by Worthless Junk Records and Bitch City on Saturday, May 26th. The event will feature five different local bands, with local psychedelic explorers The Diamond Center and indie-rock heavyweights White Laces combining to bring the city one of the better headlining double bills we've seen this year. The other groups performing have just as much to offer, from Cheyenne's passionately melodic emo-pop to the accordion-driven punk sounds of Mothball Fleet and the two-man hip-hop/folk-punk hybrid that is Double Rainbow. Plus there'll be an art auction and an extensive selection of merchandise for sale from Worthless Junk Records, with proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood. There'll be plenty of good times to be had and good music to be heard, and it's all in support of a great cause, so you really should try to make it out to Gallery 5 this Saturday.
