DAILY FIX: PS I Love You, "Princess Towers"

Here's some heavy, grungy rock n' roll from a Canadian duo that I just discovered this weekend. PS I Love You just released their second LP, Death Dreams, on Paper Bag Records, and now they've released the video for its lead single, "Princess Towers." The song is about a modern concrete skyscraper in the band's hometown of Kingston, Ontario, which singer/guitarist Paul Saulnier always thought looked completely out of place within its more old-world surroundings. Saulnier and drummer Benjamin Nelson attack their heavy, distorted riffs with full power throughout the song, making it tough to even tell that, like many great heavy rock bands of the past decade or so PS I Love You don't have a bass player. Perhaps in tribute to the visually surreal appearance of the song's subject, director Nevan Lochhead created a bizarre spectacle for the video, in which the view of the band performing the song is obscured by gusts of colored fog and broken up by psychedelic colored lights, as well as the trails that are the mark of any heavy acid flashback (or so I've been told). For anyone else who's been having trouble getting back into gear after the holiday weekend, PS I Love You should be able to give you the necessary kick in the ass to bring you back up to full speed. Check out the video below, and if you dig it, you can order your own copy of Death Dreams HERE.
