Every week, without fail, there has been a superb featured act at The Republic - last Wednesday was no exception. Radio Rubber Room presented The Dream Machine and rocking funkmasters Skitzo Sound Movement.

For a few reasons, Wednesdays always seem celebratory. It could be a self-fulfilling prophecy that we aim to upkeep, after one rip-roaring Wednesday long ago perhaps. Last week it was TDM bassist Gabe Santamaria's birthday, and that was reason enough to push the party envelope all the way. I had more fun last week than I have had in a long time, according to my bar tab. After a feel-awesome set by TDM, Skitzo Sound Movement carried the fire with purpose. These guys are an absolute party band; they play funked-out extended versions of old favorites; among the many were the Stones' "Miss You", "Stayin' Alive", and "Crosstown Traffic". R.J. Belcher is a madman on guitar, and the screaming keys of Matt Broyles set the project far apart from others. Beneath it all, there's a rock solid rhythm section comprised of Wayne Clodefelter and Matt Jones on bass and drums. No doubt, this is one of the tightest funk bands I've seen in a while. Keep an eye on their page for upcoming shows.

So, Wednesdays keep getting better and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. However, if there were an end in sight, this week would seem like something of an ultimate rock denouement, for Radio Rubber Room is presenting veteran Richmond city rockstars, The Milkstains. I am ready to party so incredibly hard for this band. They keep progressing as a band and rocking harder, and are certainly feeling awesome after a recent feature in RVA Magazine. The masses will flood in to The Republic this Wednesday, fully primed to get awesome with The Milkstains. Let the insanity commence, 10pm!
