Here's a pretty cool video created and released last month, shortly after Futura 2000's visit to RVA. The video, created by TRS-804 in collaboration with Audio Mass Transit, combines still shots, music, and live footage to create a fascinating overview of Futura's career, and then focuses on some of what went down during his public appearance at the Carytown ABC Store to promote his collaboration with Hennessy. Most notably, he left some really unique autographs on Audio Mass Transit DJ Mikemetic's copies of the Mo Wax 12 inch vinyl singles that he'd done artwork for back in the 90s. Instead of merely signing his name, Futura added extra graphics onto the front covers, creating unique images for each of the records (which I would imagine probably made Mikemetic's year). In this video, over a soundtrack made up of the singles Futura autographed, we get to see footage of him adding to the artwork on those records, and get detailed pan-and-scans of each cover with his additions in place. This is a fascinating look at the creative process of a street art legend, so it is well worth your viewing time. And keep an eye out for our conversation with Futura, coming later this month in the next print issue of RVA Magazine!
