We have a lighter column this week, as folks are transitioning to the autumn and adjusting to the sudden increase in number of homicides since September. Sometimes there are releases out there that are just half-assed or mediocre. Also, I don't post dubstep. Let's step it up, RVA!
The long-awaited LP by Midair is finally here! Faceache is the follow-up album to 2010's Bop Sock. The music was recorded by Chris Compton and mixed and mastered by Josh Osborne of The Subterranea Collective. The songs will be available for download on Wednesday, 10/10. The album is full of mathy tracks, killer drumming, and unforgettable licks. While most of the music is instrumental rock, the band does throw in some vocals now and again to make sure you aren't bored. Listen to "Lil Wendy" for several post-rock breakdowns that build on each other.
Catch Midair tomorrow (Wednesday, 10/10) for a celebratory show @ The Nile with Houdan the Mystic and Perhaps.
Octavion Xcellence and Dr. Millionaire just dropped the single "Bounty Hunters," produced by Hovey Benjamin (Isaiah & Hovey). The mixtape will be out on Thanksgiving, but this track is here NOW. Richmond gets a shout out and the beat is of the illest type.
Hey Driver is a new straight edge punk band from Richmond, but it doesn't have much of a web presence yet that we could find. Regardless, here is One Year Worser, an EP released in September. Listening is an insta-party.
Crone is an instrumental rock project by Anthony Vi. He just released Atlas. which is a three-track EP of post-rock and emo licks. The moodiness creates a great background to "cry with your significant other" if you're into that sort of thing.
