Here's something interesting for all of you fans of live theatre--the Henley Street Theatre Company has put together a unique and fascinating take on a classic Shakespeare play. This Saturday, at the November Theatre (formerly the Empire Theatre), 20 different actors, none of whom have ever rehearsed with each other, will come together to present Bootleg Hamlet. In this unrehearsed version of Shakespeare's classic tragedy, each actor has memorized the lines for their particular character and come prepared with their own costumes and props for each scene--but none of them have ever worked together before. For one night only, they'll give a single performance of Hamlet, in which anything can happen! This is guaranteed to be a spectacle that you'll never forget.
The cast features Henley Street Theatre director James Ricks in the title role, as well as longtime Richmond favorite Scott Wichmann in his first local role since returning from a tour in Afghanistan. There will also be guest appearances by Carol Piersol (Firehouse Theatre), Jan Powell (Richmond Shakespeare), Chase Kniffen (VA Rep), DL Hopkins (African American Repertory Theatre), Phil Crosby (Richmond Triangle Players), and KB Saine (Sycamore Rouge). This is Henley Street Theatre Company's fourth annual Bootleg Shakespeare performance, and each year, the tickets go extremely quickly. The performance is free, and the use of the November Theatre means an increase in capacity that allows for 400 additional tickets to be given away, but this is nonetheless guaranteed to be a highly anticipated performance, and the Henley Street Theatre Company recommends being in line by 5 PM to guarantee admission. Tickets will be given away at the rate of 2 per person beginning at 6 PM, and pre-show music by Rebecca Anne Muhleman begins at 7 PM. This is a rare opportunity to see a unique version of a classic play. Don't miss this opportunity--be there!
