Richmond-based multi-media artist Mark Strandquist has been putting together his current project, Write Home Soon, for quite a while now. An ongoing project in which Strandquist works alongside individuals he meets in prisons, shelters, senior citizen facilities, high schools, museums and many other facilities, Write Home Soon consists of postcards on which participants depict places (physical or metaphorical) that they have lost access to over the course of their lifetimes. The postcards are then mailed to the Art Museum Of The Americas in Washington DC, where they will be exhibited as part of the AMA's 2012-13 exhibit, The Ripple Effect. The Ripple Effect brings together artists and projects addressing socio-political issues, in which the artists attempt to bring viewers into the work as participants and erase the distinction between passive consumption of artistic works and social engagement.

Hundreds of postcards have been mailed into the Art Museum Of The Americas for inclusion in the Write Home Soon project, from nearly 70 different facilities in the Washington DC metro area. These postcards will all go on display tomorrow, October 25, with an opening reception taking place from 6-8 PM at the AMA. The exhibit will remain on display through January 13, 2013. Here's just a small sample of the postcards that will be displayed.
