Here's a seasonally-appropriate set of jams by RVA's favorite avant-garde indie-jazz quintet, Glows In The Dark. Recorded live back in 2010, it was released this week in honor of the holiday. The set mixes themes from John Carpenter's scores from several of his movies, including Halloween, Escape From New York, Assault On Precinct 13, and The Fog, among others. Guitarist and bandleader Scott Burton arranged the pieces into a continuous set that mixes melody and improvisation into a seamless whole. Burton explains that "It was a project borne from our sincere love of John Carpenter, his near-flawless films, and his perfect compositions."

And as a special bonus Halloween treat, Burton has also put together a Spotify playlist that captures that Halloween mood that we're all after at this time of the year. It mixes familiar film score themes from Carpenter as well as Ennio Morricone and Krzysztof Komeda, plus some less familiar but equally creepy tunes. Enjoy, and have a happy Halloween!
