DAILY FIX: Kayaking the Reedy Creek Rapids

Here's a video that proves West Coast surfers don't have a monopoly on doing insane things in the midst of horrible weather for the sole purpose of pulling off unusual sporting feats. In the midst of Hurricane Sandy's actual near miss of the RVA metropolitan area, when the rest of us were huddling in our beds hoping the storm wouldn't knock out the power, half a dozen or so kayak riders got it into their heads to make the trip down to the normally placid waters of Reedy Creek. Reedy Creek is a small body of water on the southern side of the James River, which provides the waters for Forest Hill Park Lake. However, it becomes a land of rushing rapids during heavy rains, which these kayakers apparently knew--so right in the middle of one of the biggest rainstorms we've seen in recent years, they decided to brave the rushing waters of Reedy Creek. It's further evidence that extreme sports types are totally nuts, but it's also a pretty entertaining spectacle to watch on this lovely five-minute video they've left behind as evidence of their bizarre activities. And you get to listen to a Hives song while you watch it, so it definitely gets our seal of approval! Check it out:
