DAILY FIX: FIDLAR, "Cheap Beer"

This has been one of my favorite new songs lately. FIDLAR, a quartet of rowdy LA punks who've been getting people talking over the last year or so with a few EPs worth of rampaging garage punk, have kicked things up to the next level with the first single from their forthcoming self-titled debut LP on Mom And Pop Records, "Cheap Beer."The band, whose name comes from a West Coast slang acronym for "Fuck It Dog, Life's A Risk," includes two second-generation LA punks in Elvis and Max Kuehn, sons of TSOL keyboardist Greg Kuehn, and singer Zac Carper used to work for producer Rob Schnapf. So there's a real musical pedigree here, but these guys are every bit the degenerate party animals their songs make them sound like. There's plenty of pictorial evidence of exactly that on their tumblr, and the new video for "Cheap Beer" gets that party-time sensibility across in unmistakable fashion. Director Ryan Baxley put together a narrative about a motorcycle-riding madman who follows his extra-sensory perceptions to anyplace around LA where people are drinking fancy wine, expensive artisanal beer, or any other bourgeois alcohol. Then he takes his revenge. As Carper sings in the song, "Beer is always better with a bag around it." Before you head to the corner store for a 12 pack of PBR to get your weekend started off right, check out this video, and know that somewhere, a really badass biker dude has got your back.
