2012 has been a momentous year for White Laces. With a prolific set of releases and growing reputation for their live performances, they've put all of their cards on the table and it’s working wonders for the band. “Heavy Nights,” the second video released from their debut full-length, Moves, on Speakertree Records, proves to be a proper assessment of the song’s subject matter, while also engaging the viewer in a vignette from the group’s past.

The Lurid Pictures-directed music video seems to be the antithesis of first Moves video “Crawl/Collapse,” instead recalling the group's older videos. The scene is set with a young man observing his surroundings as his eyes graze past a woman who vanishes in thin air. The woman continues to appear to him in the bars, basement parties, and alleyways that bring full life to the landscape constructed. The night leads him into a violent altercation that could be fate or could just be a random act of violence. All that is certain is that this journey to the end of night has left him unhinged and bound to feel confusion about what it all could have meant.

The video’s tone evokes a bit more of the darkness found in the video for “Motorik Twilight,” from White Laces' self-titled debut EP. With a woman thirsting for blood in a dissonant world, the vision from that video is a bit more extreme than “Heavy Nights.” However, the previous White Laces video that seems to act as the clearest precursor to "Heavy Nights" is the video for “Hands in Mexico,” from their split 10 inch EP with Snowy Owls. This video depicts a younger man being tempted to the banks of a river. In a moment of impaired judgment, he is captured by a group of sirens that take him beneath the water. While "Hands In Mexico" exists in a realm of Homeric epic fantasy, “Heavy Nights” is this tale retold in the realm of our modern music scene. The barrooms and late night basement hangouts are all too familiar avenues for socialization amongst our peers. Several facets are reflected in this video segment that feel right at home, and the morning after will probably seem like a familiar experience for many.

The band is taking a break for the rest of the year with hopes of extending their reach beyond the city limits. With a few tours planned for next year, we also hope to see yet another new music video from their astonishing debut full-length Moves, as well as many appearances for the record on the upcoming 2012 year-end lists.
