The bustle of the season is upon us, and parties will get stacked one upon another until you are holidayed out. Be sure to stay on top of the music scene during the month of December. From Dave Brockie at Gallery 5 to the Sau reunion at the Ghost of Pop 8, there are many "you just have to be there" moments.

Honky-tonk masterminds The Vendors have just released a four-song EP recorded at Sound of Music Studios. With Bryan Walthall on the boards (and keys), The Lake is a breezy excursion in alt-country goodness. The first track, "Running Out," may sound a little bit like Dylan's "Wagon Wheel," but the chord progression is the only similarity. Check out "Westward in the Wagons" for a funky country tune that works the pedal steel like a disco ball. Check out The Vendors this Saturday (12/1) at Winter Thunderland, the cold version of Schneckapalooza at the Garage Mahal. Message the band for details. Also on the bill: Proverbial, PBR, Psychbilly Cadillac, Rev. D-Ray and the Shockers, Barstool Heroes, and many more!

There is a new mixtape from Checkbook, a hip hop duo made up of Rhymbuk and MicCheck804, called Checkbook 2 Sa Problem, the follow-up to the debut We Are Checkbook. Several guests appear on the album including The Big League's T-Mac, Bravo, and Jody; PayDaPrice; JessLove; and many more! Check out Checkbook @ Kingdom 12/16 with BlackFlags & Puzzle, @ShowSlimStunna, Arpee-G, and more! 6:30 pm, $11.

Matter Facts, a.k.a. Samuel Haywood, is a bad ass who just released CUTs, twelve tracks of crucial beats and stylish flow. I guarantee you'll have echoes of "I really hope I make it home tonight" ("Home Tonight") in your ears all night long.

Also, check out this track ("What You Need") from his upcoming mixtape in Winter 2013 called Eternal.

One Night Standard formed this past summer, and the band just released a track called "Hold My Tongue." The jam rock band knows some killer licks and stellar riffs. Check them out this Wednesday (11/28) @ The Republic with Machine Gun Mustache at Radio Rubber Room Presents! 10 pm, Free.

So !lla has just dropped #FortheF%&kofIt, an 18-song LP featuring several hometown RVA references. Try out "Welcome to Fist City" for some chopped Richmond rhymin' and "Richmond Royalty" for a baller's theme. I had no idea it got so "ill" up in here. This record is too much!

Lucy & Adam are back with a new track called "Act I." Lucy Dacus and Adam Watkins give a folk song the duo treatment with sparse ukulele.
