Need Supply Co. continues their “Meet the Maker” series this Friday, February 8th with a visit from Apolis’s“Nomad Market." This traveling installation will be on display at Need for the entire month. If you’ve read this far, you’re probably already asking yourself, “What is this Apolis and how does it differ from any other designer at Need?”
Apolis describes itself as “a small group of social entrepreneurs who believe that the most valuable practice in creating lasting change is by investing in people.” More than that abstraction conveys, the company is on the bandwagon of ethical, social entrepreneurship, a la Warby Parker, Suno, and Tom’s Shoes. Conscientious consumption is certainly on the rise, and it’s awesome to see a world-wide brand partner with a local Richmond business to bring this type of event to our city. Apolis aims to emphasize and build the bridges between the creator and distributor of the goods we buy. I know I often feel a pang of guilt when faced with the reality of who makes the goods I "choose” to consume. As a company, Apolis brings humanity to our consumption, as the company believes the people behind what we purchase deserve their rightful link to the product they helped create. If you’ve ever wanted to know the story behind your necktie, notebook, or shoes, this brand is worth checking out.
In residency at Need, the brand’s Nomad Market “is a traveling seasonal installation featuring Apolis' product collection, stories, and films.” Come out to Need Supply Co, located at 3100 W. Cary St in Carytown, this Friday from 6 to 8 PM to mingle, learn about Apolis, and perhaps make a purchase you can feel good about.
