The weather is still kind of terrible and everyone is tired of it and ready for Spring, but hey, there are a lot of awesome events happening this weekend in RVA that will make you forget the dismal weather of February and March. Here are a few for you to check out:
Friday, 3/1: The Catalyst, Count Von Count, & Olde Shame @ Strange Matter
Strange Matter front of house manager Ron Rogers is throwing a birthday party, and everyone's invited! He's gotten some friends of his to provide entertainment; fortunately for music fans, Ron's got friends in some of the best punk and metal bands in RVA and Delaware! The Catalyst will be headlining, doing a special set featuring the return of longtime second drummer Jamie Faulstich, performing with the band for most likely the last time ever. Also on the bill will be Wilmington, Delaware's stoned metal warriors, Count Von Count, and blazing local punk band Olde Shame. Come out and party!
Friday, 3/1: Animal Beat @ On The ROX
Local feel good rockers The Animal Beat will be playing a chilled-out show at On The ROX this Friday night. Head down to 18th street after you've done First Fridays to dance to some pop and relax. These guys write songs with names like "The Rain Stopped Today" and they wear silly animal masks, so you know you're in for a feel-good time.
Saturday, 3/2: People's Blues Of Richmond, Toy Soldiers & Toxic Moxie @ The Camel
People's Blues of Richmond play at The Camel all the time, but there is always a great turn-out and no one ever regrets spending the night with PBR. This weekend, they are playing a show with Toy Soldiers from Philly and local disco-punks Toxic Moxie. Don't miss out!
The National hosts a night of Richmond metal this Saturday in support of local favorite Afterlyfe's last show. They will be supported by Spiral Fracture, Gritter, Strike The Chord And Burn, and Indebt, so you'll get everything from grindy, punk-inspired metal to melodic and technical stuff. This is a great lineup, and it's also all-ages, so you'll get to see all those awkward high school kids with Xs on their hands making out.
Sunday, 3/3: Altered Boys, Unholy Thoughts, Damaged Goods, & Blind Ignorance @ Strange Matter
Don't miss this early, all-ages show at Strange Matter. Damaged Goods, from New Jersey, who play power violence, and locals Blind Ignorance open it up, followed by local hardcore greats Unholy Thoughts and New Jersey hardcore greats Altered Boys. The show starts right at six, so start your night early and still make it to work Monday morning, albeit with a terrible hangover.
There are plenty of other awesome events happening this weekend too! Check out our entire calendar here!
