Yes, it's true--Pinback, the long-running collaboration between math-rock heavyweights Rob Crow (Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, Goblin Cock) and Armistead Burwell "Zack" Smith IV (Three Mile Pilot, Systems Officer), will be taking the stage at Richmond's Canal Club on Saturday, March 16--and your friends at RVA Magazine have got the hookup! Pinback released their fifth album, Information Retrieved, on Temporary Residence last October, and have been playing live dates all over the country ever since. Due to the many different projects Crow and Smith are involved with, Pinback tends to alternate between active periods and long stretches of silence; indeed, Information Retrieved is their first full-length release since 2007's Autumn Of The Seraphs. So whether they'll be back on tour anytime soon is an open question. Fortunately for us, they'll be bringing their brand of intricate, melody-driven indie rock to the stage here in Richmond at least once before they disappear again. The way they layer their subtly catchy vocals and guitar lines over quietly propulsive rhythms is the sound of pure blissout, and it's sure to get you dancing in a live environment. You don't want to miss this show!

Here's a really cool video from Pinback's new album--"Sherman" is the first single from Information Retrieved, and its video is a detailed homage to cold-war era science fiction films. The video depicts a truly impressive collection of outdated technology, while the music is Pinback's usual brilliant blend of undistorted guitar melodies and catchy, danceable rhythms. Dig it!
