This weekend has everything: hot weather, probably a little cold weather, Saint Patrick's Day on Sunday, and plenty of great things going on to usher in the beginning of the warmer season. Here are just some of the awesome events you can check out!
Friday, March 15th: Dub 101 @ The Canal Club
Dub 101 is a promotional company that usually books college student-oriented shows with more modern, "bro"-style dub step, but this Friday, they are bringing New Zealand-based heavy dubstep guru Truth to the stage. Truth plays and produces a dark, emotional blend of dub that will blow you away. He will be joined by Luminox from Pheonix, and locals Massacat, Mike Phear, Groove Status, and Eli Cash. Tickets are $15, but if you are a fan of heavy electronic music, this isn't one to miss!
Friday, March 15th: Sam's Birthday @ Strange Matter
Sam from Dry Spell is having his birthday party at Strange Matter this year, and even if you don't know that guy from Adam's housecat, you should still go to this show if you're a fan of raging hardcore punk. Dry Spell will be playing, of course, along with Unholy Thoughts and Olde Shame. It's a night of great local bands, it's only five bucks, and there will probably be some cheap drinks!
Saturday, March 16th: Beard: A Queer Dance Party @ Strange Matter
What could be better than a queer dance party at Strange Matter? It's free, two DJs will be spinning vinyl records, plus there'll be a special set from Glitterlust--a disco punk band from DC--and a photobooth that benefits the Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project! It's a fun free place to hang out and dance on a Friday night, no one will be judged, and you can buy photos to benefit a good cause!
Saturday, March 16th: Trouvére @ Gallery 5
Indie band Trouvére will be celebrating the release of their new, self-titled EP on Church Hill Records at Gallery 5 this Saturday, along with Mount Lion and Dave Watkins. Six dollars at the door gets you three awesome bands and a chance to get the new Trouvére EP. Don't miss out!
Sunday, March 17th: Richmond Music Review @ Tobacco Company
Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day this Sunday at Tobacco Company with RVA Mag and Radio Rubber Room for the "Green Out" edition of Richmond Music Review. Wear a bunch of green, kick back with a few drinks, and listen to Solace Sovay, The Banduras, Love Logic, and Mekong Xpress. You have to spend the holiday where everyone pinches you and brags about how they are Irish somewhere, and what better place then in Shockoe Bottom hearing local music?
There are plenty of other awesome events happening this weekend too! Check out our entire calendar here!
