In one week, the temperature in Richmond seems to have shifted successfully from winter to summer without wasting time with Spring. And this weekend, there are a plethora of awesome Indie shows and other cool events to enjoy while wearing your skimpy summer clothes. So go out, enjoy the high temperatures, and show your support for the local scene.
Friday 4/12, Saturday 4/13, Sunday 4/14: Stay Sweet Fest @ The Camel
All weekend long, Richmond will be hosting Stay Sweet Fest, a festival full of good times, indie bands, and pop punk bands. There's a pre-show on Thursday at Strange Matter [see today's One Way Richmond show preview article for details-ed], and the rest of the weekend will take place at The Camel. There are over thirty bands playing, and there will be plenty of merch and drink specials to keep you enthralled during the entire festival. This is a show that people come from all over to see, so if you live in Richmond and you haven't checked it out before, don't miss it!
Friday. 4/12: No Richmond @ Balliceaux
One of the coolest monthly DJ nights at Balliceaux is No Richmond. It's a night where post punk and goth vinyl records are spun all night for the amusement of all who come to dance. There will be awesome beers on tap and fairly priced mixed drinks, as usual, and it's a great excuse to wear black and dance all night!
Saturday, 4/13: The Cheats Movement X @ Ipanema
This Saturday at Ipanema, The Cheats Movement presents Live at Ipanema, featuring The Low Branches playing material from their recently released album One Hundred Years Old, as well as a solo performance by Sam Reed, of Photosythesizers and Beast Wellington. This is a great show to check out if you want to meet some people behind the local music scene and see some of the cities most celebrated musicians.
Saturday, 4/13: Richmond Hostel Benefit @ Gallery 5
Pretty soon, there will be an international hostel in Richmond welcoming the world's weary travelers, giving them a cheaper place to stay than the Marriot and a less sketchy option than couch crashing. If you want to be a part of helping this great idea come to fruition, then come out to Gallery 5 on Saturday to see Dimples, Wolf//Goat, Time Machines, Negative Gemini, and Dave Watkins play a benefit show for the new hostel. It's five dollars at the door, and it all goes to the hostel project, so bring your friends!
Sunday, 4/14: Culo @ Studio 7E
Awesome local punk record store Vinyl Conflict presents an awesome show this weekend at Studio 7E, at 1413 Highpoint in Scott's Addition. Chicago punk band Culo is headlining, with locals Devil's Hand and Unholy Thoughts opening up. This new show space is an amazing location, so come check it out, and hear some great hardcore bands while you're at it!
