Virginia resident, photographer, video director, and man-about-town Richard Perkins has released a new zine entitled Titanic. The 32-page zine of new photographs was released last month by Blood of the Young Zine, an independent publishing house based in Toronto.
Perkins says that the general vibe of the collection is “girls--Motley Crue status.” The austere sex appeal of this “ALL girl zine” is achieved through a multitude of lenses, ranging from your everyday disposable camera to a DSLR. The combination of staged and witnessed photos was shot mostly in Virginia and New York.
The idea for this zine came from a dream that Perkins had: “about a steeple and a sand trap, but [the] steeple sank, it made me cry;” an ardent dream that surely inspired some vivid photographs.
There is a lot more coming out of camp Perkins in the near future, including a collaboration with Play Cloths, the clothing company run by the members of Clipse; a book of poetry; and hopefully a short film with John Sebastian Vitale, with whom Perkins previously collaborated on Magick Margaritasville.
