The Trillions are long time veterans of the Richmond music scene. There are few venues in town that haven’t played host to the gritty pop-rock band. On Tuesday, June 11th, the Trillions will once again be gracing Richmond crowds with their musical presence at The Camel, accompanied by New Madrid, an up-and-coming band out Athens, Georgia.

New Madrid’s debut album, Yardboat, found its sound thanks in part to well-known engineers David Barbe (REM, Drive-By Truckers, Deerhunter)--who produced the album--and Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Dan Deacon)--who mastered it. Yardboat conveys a vintage warmth created by recording solely on analog tape. The harmonies and twang on songs such as "Country Moon Pt. 1" and "Summer Dream Sigh" allow for an obvious Southern influence to shine though. In contrast, the simple rhythm and generally laid-back mood of "Pond" could have been found on an album by a 90s shoegaze band. The whole album emits the vibe of chillwave, but with a rock-oriented aesthetic; I imagine this is what an album from Toro Y Moi would sound like if it were written and recorded in Nashville.

This past March, New Madrid was given the opportunity to play the stages of SXSW in Austin, Texas. They have also found themselves playing along side notable names in the industry such as Patterson Hood from the Drive-By Truckers as well as other rising stars like Moon Taxi and Diarrhea Planet.

The Trillions are more familiar to Richmond audiences, but still offer some exciting reasons to leave the house on a Tuesday night. Recent hints about studio time and new records being put together are resulting in new material slowly creeping into the band's set, which is always a treat. With multiple band members recently receiving higher education degrees, this is the perfect time to see The Trillions demonstrate why they have a Ph.D in ROCK!

The show at The Camel on June 11th promises to be an impressive show of musicianship. The Trillions know from experience how to get the Richmond crowds hyped up, and New Madrid promises to bring a new groove to the stage. This Tuesday night, come out to The Camel, located at 1621 W. Broad St, and hear it for yourself. Doors open at 9 PM. For further information, check out the facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/605056322851318/
