Spazz - American Idol (Datpiff)

I wrote about this rapper's debut project last year; it got rave reviews from me and a lot of other people as well. Since then, he has played countless shows, and now he brings us his sophomore project, American idol. This gentleman goes by the name of Spazz (not to be confused with the rock group). This project sets us up for what is to come from him. As I press play on the CD, it kicks into the beat of the title track, “American Idol,” with a cadence that has a ballad-like ring to it, topped by a short monologue about loving and helping one another as human beings. "My City" is a track featuring The New Juice Crew's own BC Music First. In this song, Spazz explains what he considers his city by saying that anywhere he lays his head he represents, and then BC adds his own spin on this idea. Another song that stood out as different from a lot of what I hear these days is “Teenage Killers,” which tells a fictional story of being involved in a school shooting, and the way it looks from his perspective. This mixtape is a step up from Precious Medals, and I enjoyed listening to it. I hope to see some visuals in the near future.
Must Listen: 1’s In The Air, Things Happen, Megatron Prime

Mi$tro - Ashtrays And Ambition (LiveMixtapes)

This mixtape comes from Mi$tro, an artist who claims his home as Caroline County and also claims North Stafford--so basically the Fredericksburg area. I have been following him for some time now on his journey for success and fame. His hustle has led to notoriety in his area and those surrounding, proving that he's working hard to make it, This tape brings us his follow up project to The Commonwealth, which dropped last year. His newest project, Ashtrays And Ambition, is hosted by DJ Grady. The title refers to his love of Newports and his drive for success, which you can see in his appearances on many local radio stations, and even in the fact that he has a verified account on twitter. His style has a Yo Gotti/Rick Ross feel at times on this project. On “$tro Montana,” he compares himself to the famous football player Joe Montana, explaining that he’s legendary where he’s from. “Ode ToThe Strippers” is a track about how much he loves those “red bottom” ladies. A very sensual track for the ladies it can relate to.
Must Listen: Smoke Break, To My Young Boys, Never Sleep
