Hey look, Bloc Party is back again… a second time. Yes, this is a SECOND return from hiatus, and this time it seems to have paid off. Take a look at their new release “Ratchet,” with details below the video:
Toe tapping yet? I stumbled across this song the other day and the intro made me think it was a Rihanna remix, and I was incredibly happy when I realized it wasn’t a Rihanna remix.
The UK’s Bloc Party has been rocking dance floors since 2003. They sound a lot like LCD Soundsystem in that it’s dancey as hell, and the singer does more talking than singing (but this is one humble writers opinion). Either way, "Ratchet" combines my love of hard, consistent beats, thick bass riffs, and getting ratchet. I really love getting ratchet. If you don’t know what getting ratchet is, consider drinking a fifth of gin and putting half an adderall up your nose, then press record on the ol’ desktop web cam and try to dance. You’ll have yourself a pretty solid example of getting ratchet, and you can even share it with your friends! [Editors’s note: RVAMag DOES NOT CONDONE THE USE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS RECREATIONALLY. THEY DO, HOWEVER, ENCOURAGE GIN CONSUMPTION AND DANCING.]
Anywho, the new 5-track EP, The Nextwave Sessions, is set for an August 13th release via Frenchkiss Records. It’s been produced by Dan Carey, whose past work includes Bats for Lashes and Hot Chip – both successful, moody, and awesome in their own right.
Keep an eye out for the rest of this bad boy, and if we’re lucky, maybe we’ll even get a US tour…
