Art Whino and RVA Magazine present the 2013 Richmond Mural Project reception, taking place at Selba on Saturday, July 27. Beginning at noon and continuing til 6 PM, stop by Selba, located at 2416 W. Cary St, for an all-day reception featuring live painting and signing by muralists, as well as live music from Long Jawns, Mike Kemetic of Audio Mass Transit, and DJ Phenom. It'll be a blast--we hope to see you there!

Art Whino has returned to Richmond, VA to continue with last year’s greatly successful Richmond Mural Project. Art Whino are curating another edition of murals in RVA from eight to twelve of the top muralists from around the world. This second project will build on the 23 previously created murals and will add another 20 throughout the city, bringing the number of murals to 43 upon completion.

The Richmond Mural Project is a yearly event with the goal of creating over 100 murals by world renowned talent in the first 5 years alone. The recurrence and solidification of the project throughout this time will establish Richmond as a landmark destination for internationally recognized murals. It will also create exposure for the city, establishing it as a premier art destination. By concentrating a large number of murals throughout the city, the project will increase tourism and will bring the much needed "feet on the street" to help local business thrive. Along with this mission, there are many additional benefits that these murals will bring to the city of Richmond. These murals will serve as positive catalysts for change by specifically placing them in areas that are in disrepair. These environments include neighborhoods with abandoned buildings and low foot traffic, areas with high crime, and newly developed areas in need of identity.

The Richmond Mural Project officially begins on Monday, July 22, and will last two weeks, ending on Friday, August 2. During that time, stop by the Love RVA Gallery at 202 W. Broad St to pick up mural maps brought to you by Gungho Guides, as well as to check out a special exhibition featuring prints by artists involved in the project.

And be sure to stop by the reception on Saturday July 27! RSVP on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/482177008534953/

And keep checking back here for more updates on the Richmond Mural Project!
