That's right, scumdogs, GWAR is back! Not that they ever went anywhere, other than on tour all across the nation and the world, but RVA's favorite alien overlords of metal have a brand new set of tunes to unleash upon us all, and they're starting right now with the release of new single "Madness At The Core Of Time"! This song is taken from Battle Maximus, the group's 13th LP and the first since the tragic loss of their longtime guitarist, Flattus Maximus, back in 2011. "This album is both a tribute to Flattus and a telling of the next chapter in the story of GWAR," explains vocalist Oderus Urungus. "We have mourned, we have honored, and now it's time to fucking DEVASTATE in the name of Flattus and the supreme entity that is GWAR."
The devastation begins with the release of "Madness At The Core Of Time," a fast, thrashy track that reveals more of GWAR's hardcore roots than seemingly have been on display in quite a while. Forgoing over-the-top distortion for a more streamlined guitar and bass sound that recalls prime-era Motorhead, the mighty monsters rage hard with a track that is sure to get listeners' heads banging. The guitar solo from new recruit Pustulus Maximus is a particular highlight. Pustulus expresses his happiness at joining the band in inimitable GWAR fashion. "It is a highlight of my corpse-littered life to join my Scumdog brothers and continue the legendary legacy of the Maximus clan," he said. "I am not so happy that Oderus vandalized my space-ship, effectively marooning me on Earth, but fuck it... it's time to ROCK!"
"Madness At The Core Of Time" is the first of 12 tracks to come from Battle Maximus. The album will allegedly take the form of a narrative about GWAR's battle with "Mr. Perfect," an enemy come from the far reaches of space and time to steal GWAR's power of immortality and reshape Earth and its people in his own image. Obviously, this aggression will not stand. "If anyone is gonna destroy the human race, it's gonna be us... so get ready for the most epic struggle yet," explained Oderus. Further elaborating on both the album and the new stage show planned for an accompanying tour, he continued: "Battle Maximus is destined to further solidify GWAR's place as the masters of Earth and Man, and no time-travelling demonic despot is going to change that, even if we have to kick his ass in every venue from the most puke-smeared club to the most illustrious festival stages worldwide. The new show is going to feature Mr. Perfect eating his own ass nightly, as well as GWAR torturing the most annoying figures in the world of entertainment, politics, and religion. Prepare yourselves for the most awesome chapter in GWAR's blood-soaked history yet. Hail Flattus!"
Richmond fans will next get a chance to see GWAR's amazing live entertainment spectacle at the 2013 GWAR-B-Q, coming up on Saturday, August 17--and if you don't have tickets yet, you know what to do! Once the GWAR-B-Q has ended and the Slave Pit has had a few weeks to recover, the band will set off on a tour with Hatebreed in September, which will end just in time for the release of Battle Maximus on September 17!
