July is finally coming to an end, but, as all Virginians know, there is still plenty of hot weather to come. There are also plenty of awesome shows and other things going down this weekend! Richmond's beloved Kepone are returning for yet another reunion show, local act Dead Fame are shooting an in-depth music video production at Balliceaux, and the monthly Richmond Burlesque Revue is going down at Gallery 5. So brave the heat and check out some great stuff around the city!
Friday, 7/26: Dead Fame Music Video Shoot @ Balliceaux
Local indie band Dead Fame are filming a music video this Friday and Saturday at Balliceaux, and they are really going all out with it. They are filming for the song "My Body, My Fool," and they are going for a dark masquerade-type theme, taking inspiration from the film The Labyrinth. They will be starting preparations at nine in the morning, doing makeup and setting up the staging. Bring your own mask or costume, or get hooked up with one there, and if you're camera shy, just show up to help out behind the scenes and then chill and watch later. This is a sweet chance to be part of a production and party at the same time; don't miss out!
Friday, July 7/26: Kepone @ Gallery 5
Richmond's favorite 90s math-rock sensation, Kepone, are returning to Strange Matter this Friday for a night of throwback tunes and good times. Kepone features members of a lot of other local bands of yesteryear, such as GWAR, Holy Rollers, and Burma Jam, and well known Richmond artist Ed Trask is the drummer! This time around, they will be playing with Josephine, a new side project that mixes local singer/songwriters Sarah White and Charlie Bell with 2/3 of Kepone (Trask and bassist Michael Bishop). Kid is Qual kick off the festivities with their dual-bass funk/punk jams.
Saturday, 7/27: Body Talk @ Balliceaux
This Saturday at Balliceaux, come check out another installment of Body Talk, a night of awesome boogie, funk, soul, and electro music. DJ Mordecai, Sean Lovelace, and TruBlu will be spinning awesome tunes for your dancing pleasure all night long. Come hang out and dance your cares away. There's no cover charge!
Saturday, 7/27: Richmond Burlesque Revue @ Gallery 5
The Richmond Burlesque Revue strikes again this weekend, with a big celebration at Gallery 5 of all the local talent. Deepa de Jour and her fellow lovely ladies will be performing, along with special guest Zoe Ziegfeld from New York City. The event will also feature Richmond-famous drag queen Magnolia Jackson Pickett Burnside as a guest host. If you like drag or burlesque at all, don't miss this!
Sunday, 7/28: Twin Tigers @ Strange Matter
There is another awesome shoegaze show going on this Sunday at Strange Matter, headlined by dreampop sensations Twin Tigers from Athens. Opening the show are Highway Cross from DC, featuring x-members of Triac and Cloak Dagger; Left and Right, a 90s-style band from Charlottesville; and Gunboat, a post-punk band from here in RVA. Come end your weekend on a ringing note of diverse rock n' roll weirdness, all for a mere seven bucks!
