Considering that it's been a few years since the release of Downbeat Switch's last record, The Red Door Sessions--which was itself a reworking of their previous release, Run From The Sun--it's safe to count their new album as "long-awaited." However, fans will be glad to know that the wait is nearly over, as the local soul/funk/alt-rock quintet will be releasing their new album, BirdsEye, on September 6. That's still nearly six weeks away, but fortunately for you, they've made the first single from the record, which is also the title track, available for your listening pleasure. Check it out below:

"BirdsEye" is only one of 17 tracks that will be contained on the album of the same name, and its pleasant pop sound, highlighted by the piano playing of Sean Reese and Jenna Be's excellent vocals, is underscored by some chunky guitar riffing from Meredith Brooks and the reggae-tinged drumming of Rob Reardon. The atmospheric breakdown that shows up 3/4 of the way through the song helps add texture and provide an unexpected breath of fresh air as well. Honestly, I would have liked to hear Brooks's guitar a little louder in the mix, but the song's pretty close to perfect as it is, and the chorus will have you humming along all day.

Downbeat Switch will have plenty more new music to share with you on Friday, September 6, when they present the official release party for BirdsEye at The Tobacco Company. The band will be playing a great deal of material from BirdsEye, and the show is free, so that you'll have plenty of cash available with which to buy a copy. The whole thing starts at 9 PM on September 6, so mark your calendars now!
