This weekend marks the beginning of August, and with it, the first Friday of the month and lots of great music and art all over the city! Go see Black Girls play at Gallery 5 after you check out stuff on the art walk, head over to Aurora to see some crazy live hip hop and party your ass off, see No BS! Brass Band at the Camel, or wind down on Sunday with some live jazz at Poe's Pub. Whatever you do, get out and enjoy one of the last weekends before Richmond is again inundated with tons of students!
Friday, 8/2: Project X Richmond @ Aurora
If you're up for it, come out for a bumpin' time at Aurora this Friday with hip hop greats DJ Dez, Duhwayne, and the man himself, J Roddy Rod. The show will also feature a guest appearance by performer V Dot, and will be hosted by Party Man Eazy, Mr. Yeah, and Lil L. Admission is only ten bucks, but twenty gets you a VIP pass with all access and a chance to hang with the performers. Come on downtown and dance till you drop.
Friday, 8/2: Black Girls @ Gallery 5
If you're looking for a free good time this Friday, come check out Black Girls at Gallery 5. It'll be the perfect way to end your First Friday Art Walk--not only are Richmond's premier blue-eyed indie soul boys laying down a powerful set, there'll be some arty math-pop from The Trillions and indie-folk from Hypercolor, plus an opening set from Punch Buttons. Art plus music = awesome!
Friday, 8/2: Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds @ The Hippodrome
Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, the eight-piece throwback soul group fronted by a female singer, are headlining a show at the Hippodrome this Friday. The Hippodrome only has live shows once in a while, and this is a great chance to check out some soul-fueled rhythms as well as a new venue. Best of all, admission is only nine bucks! Come enjoy the soothing sounds of Arleigh Kincheloe's voice with a live band behind her.
Saturday, 8/3: No BS! Brass Band @ The Camel
No BS! Brass Band takes the stage at The Camel this Saturday, along with instrumental blues brethren Planet Hunting Methods. It'll be a night of sonic soundscapes and funky rhythms. Seven dollars only! Don't miss a chance to see one of Richmond's staple sensations playing with another group of young instrumentalists.
Sunday, 8/4: Sunday Jazz Brunch @ Poe's Pub
Enjoy another installment of Sunday Jazz Brunch at Poe's Pub this weekend, featuring music by Eastern Standard Jazz Band. Come eat a delicious brunch at Richmond's favorite Poe-themed pub, and allow yourself to be serenaded by the soulful sounds of sweet jazz music .
