Do you like to twerk? Do you like to move to the groves? Do you like a mess of local talented RVA artists and want to help support live music in the Riva City? Then make sure you come out to Fall Line Fest, September 6th and 7th.
Fall Line hopes to follow in the foot steps of some of the many smaller town/big name music festivals that have started to spring up around the country. Sean Rhorer, and a core group of about ten other local Richmonders, said putting the event together was a no brainer. “Every time we went to one of them we came back to Richmond and thought ‘man there should be something like this in Richmond,” Rhorer said.
A good mix of local and national musical artists have found their way onto the Fall Line schedule. The lineup was a team effort of the festivals booking committee which got together and brainstormed about artists they wanted to see come to town.
Made up of local record shop workers, local DJs, and other locals involved in the music community, the committee is happy to have a “very diverse lineup, that is really a reflection of what Richmond is about,” said Rhorer.
Headlining Fall Line is Queen of Bounce, Big Freedia, an artist with a persona twice the size of her musical sound. Rhorer says that she will be an ideal headliner the festival, “The reason she makes so much sense as a headliner is because her whole vibe is like ‘fun and party and have a good time.’ It makes for a great end to the fest, we’re all going to hangout for the weekend and the very last thing we’re all going to do is all dance like crazy people.”
Big Freedia, Twerk-Goddess
The music is just the tip of the iceberg a far as Fall Line is concerned, though. There are also a number of culinary collaborations between musical artists playing at Fall Line and local chefs. A couple of the mash-ups include Jason Alley from Pasture teaming up No BS! Brass Band, and Will Wienckowski from Ipanema Café teaming up with Cold Cave.
The plan is for them to get together and create a dish that will be available for the duration of Fall Line. “Almost everyone that is involved in the restaurant community in Richmond has some ties to the music community as well,” Rhorer said. “It made sense to expand that to what the festival is about.”
Music at Fall Line will not begin until 6pm, which means there will be a lot of time during the day to explore the other events offered by Fall Line and other local business. There is a number of “unofficial events” that are not a part of Fall Line, but that are being put on by “friends of the fest” or by locals who are simply excited about what is happening. More information on these events will be available closer to the Fall Line.
First Fridays will coincide with the events at Fall Line, as well. A number of local galleries plan put something on for the Fall Line crowds. Rhorer says he knows Art 180 will be putting on a show, and believes others will follow suit.
Check in for the festival will be at the parking lot at the corner of Broad and Belvedere. Shows will take place at The Camel, the Hippodrome Theater, Love RVA, and Strange Matter. Tickets are limited and Rhorer expects they will sell out, so cop your passes HERE while you have the chance.
