Maybe it's the LSD, or the tour schedule, but MGMT continues to freak me out. Here's their newest video release, "Your Life Is a Lie."
This song is freaky-deaky as is the usual for the Connecticut based phsyc-rock band. I was sick to death of their last smash hit "Electric Feel" (maybe smash doesn't fully explain how much this song was played, but rather what I wanted to do with my car radio every time it came on about 3 months after its release.) But let's get back into the positive here - this new jam is short, candy sweet, and consists of 2 chords repeated for the duration - and over all I enjoy it.
It's almost got a Beck-on-tour-with-puppets feel (and you could make a worse comparison) in its wacky procession sounds and whimsical tone.
I'm curious what MGMT will look like at 42. If they will tour the country and play songs that share more with the ramblings of an angsty 16-year-old, or if at some point they'll realize tripping balls and living in a narcissistic fantasy world is not really a stable career path.
