Hank Williams III is a one-man wrecking crew. His name indicates his place in a family tradition of country music legends, but his fiery outlaw personality and love for punk rock and metal make clear that he's got so much more going on than just country. Indeed, in the words of Rob Van Dam, Hank 3 is the whole f'n show, and he proves it during his marathon live performances. Playing for an average of three hours, Hank starts out with a round of material from his country career; on his current tour, he'll be drawing heavily from Brothers Of The 4x4, his latest country album. Hitting stores on October 1, this double-length release is billed as "100% pure whoop-ass in a bottle," and represents Hank's outlaw-country lifestyle with roots-infused tunes featuring traditional instrumentation (stand-up bass, banjo played clawhammer-style) and a heaping helping of Hank 3's defiant personality.

The second half of the set will not be for wimps, but those who stick around will be richly rewarded with a set from Hank's other upcoming album. A Fiendish Threat, also due out October 1, features a set of hardcore punk tunes with an unorthodox approach, and that's exactly what audiences who make it into hour three will get from Hank 3 and his band. Featuring the same traditional instruments that liven up his country sets, Hank 3 and company will unleash stand-up bass, fiddle, and banjo as part of a speedy set that's been compared to Minor Threat, The Misfits, and The Ramones, complete with a backdrop provided by Craig Baldwin's found-footage "pseudo-documentary,"Tribulation 99. Hank 3's upcoming performance at 9:30 Club promises to be a wild ride, and fans will certainly get their money's worth. There won't be any opening bands, so make sure you show up on time, but for three hours of nonstop musical entertainment, it'll be more than worth your while.
