Page Bond Gallery is inviting Richmond art enthusiast to join them Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 6-8 p.m. to celebrate their current summer exhibition, the full moon and local artist Kathleen Markowitz. On view at Page Bond Gallery is Breath of Light Things, by Markowitz and Shade, a summer exhibition which features regional, national and international artists.
Owner and director of the gallery, Page Bond, said producing the group show has been an organic experience and a lot of fun. “I think that the idea of this being a summer show and shade and light kind of working together is the back story of this exhibition,” Bond said.
Several artist Bond points out have used metallic paint which elevate their lighting to a new level including her favorite piece, Element L, by San Francisco artist Stephanie Weber. “The aluminum panels I work with impose an interesting challenge. They add possibilities of light and shimmer,” Weber said. “I experience an ongoing dialogue between the sensuousness of painting, the cool industrial feel of the metal and intellectual decisions that present themselves.” Local artist Kathleen Markowitz is also being recognized during Wednesday’s event for her new work on display at the contemporary gallery. She has an interest in poetry and often paints piece based on poems she has written.
“It is through that interest in writing and visual art that her body of work was produced,” Bond Markowitz who has studied art in both Italy and Spain also attended VCU School of the Arts. “I am drawn to the sheer physicality of making a painting; the tactile engagement of materials.”
The Full Moon Reception will take place at Page Bond Gallery, located at 1625 West Main St., Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 6-8 p.m.. The summer exhibition will be shown through Aug. 30..
