Looks like electro/pop mega star Moby is releasing a new album next month. Innocents is set to drop 9/30, and a teaser video has been sent out - and while I'm not normally one to shill for a hokey press release, this "teaser" is more of a view into what I imagine every day life is like for Moby(Featuring the Flaming Lips's Wayne Coyne.)
Moby comments on the impromptu teaser:
"A few weeks ago Wayne and I spent the day making a video for 'The Perfect Life'. then at the end of the day we broke out an acoustic guitar and gathered all of the extras on a rooftop overlooking L.A and sang an unrehearsed, impromptu version of the song. Please keep in mind we had no idea what we were doing."
That's some pretty great impromptu action - punks, burlesque girls, fat dudes with beards, and a chick in a Chung-Li outfit. Sweet.
Moby and Coyne worked together on the song "The Perfect Life," but this isn't the only colab on the album - Cold Specks's Al Spx appears on two tracks, Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age), Damien Jurado, Skylar Grey all also lend their talents to the upcoming record.
Moby elaborated a bit more on working with Coyne, digging back to when they first met in 1995:
“The Flaming Lips and I were both opening up for a Red Hot Chili Peppers’ European tour. We became friends, shared a dressing room and the same bad craft services, and watched the Chili Peppers from the side of the stage. I thought of Wayne for this song because The Flaming Lips have evolved in this very open, celebratory band when they play live, and that was the perfect vibe for what I was imagining for ‘The Perfect Life.’ I texted Wayne and said, ‘Hey, I have a song – want to sing on it?’ Thirty seconds later, he texted me back: ‘Yes, send it to me, it will be great.”
I'm not surprised to hear Moby complain about craft service (it probably had shitty vegan options)
Here's the first single from Innocents that dropped back in July:
