The 17-year old Richmond boutique, Need Supply Co., is bringing the Northern Grade traveling pop-up market to the Power Plant at Haxall Point. Northern Grade was founded in 2009 by the Minneapolis based husband and wife duo Katherine and Mac McMillan. The event will host over 20 influential America-made designers with local brands, a coffee café from Lamplighter Roasting Company, and a men’s grooming station from Foster Cuts.

Need Supply Co. will also bring in some of their domestically made lines to the event in the form of a pop-up store. Although this event might be new to the Richmond area, Need Supply Co. has long been an advocate for domestically made products and goods.

It’s important for us to support any local made industry and business. A lot of these brands have been around for a really, really long time and the quality is really excellent. They’re just sort of classic items that you would have in your wardrobe for a long time,” said Molly Szkotak of Need Supply Co. when asker thoughts on American-made goods.

American designer Billy Reid of Amite, Louisiana will also have a pop-up shop at the Northern grade market. Billy Reid won the Best New Designer in America Award in February 2010 from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). In that same year (November of 2010), Reid also went on to win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award making history as the first designer to win both awards within the same year. In June of 2012 Reid also won the CFDA’s Best Menswear Designer of the Year Award.

Northern Grade and Need Supply Co. want people to be excited about American made clothing but above all, they want for everyone to have a good time and have a unique experience. “One thing for us is just creating a really unique experience for people. Especially people who are coming from other cities and out of state that are coming to Richmond. We think this really puts Richmond on another plane in respect to menswear and local products and supporting all of those things,” said Szotak when describing what she wants people to take away from this event.

Celebrate Richmond, menswear and American Made products at the Northern Grade pop-up Market. The event will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Sunday September 22 from 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. The event is open to people of all ages, and is free and open to the public. Local Richmond food trucks will also be at this event.
