Marc Cheatham of The Cheats Movement blog is both an extremely hard worker and a tireless supporter of the best aspects of the RVA community. Therefore it cannot be much of a surprise to anyone that he's the man behind RVA Hot Sauce. Previously appearing as both a live music event and a mixtape (released in collaboration with RVA Mag and still available for free download from our bandcamp page!), RVA Hot Sauce will make its triumphant return to the local stage this Sunday at Gallery 5!
For The Cheats Movement, this show marks a great way to sum up 2013 in the RVA music scene, hip hop and beyond. With some essential figures in the local hip hop scene on hand, including Noah O, Michael Millions, Radio B, and Ohbliv, the evening will also feature music from artists like Anousheh, Photosynthesizers, and JD Haze. While all of these artists have some hip hop or R&B elements, their inclusion of live instruments and a variety of genres in their sound will keep the evening varied and engaging, with plenty of dynamics.
It goes even farther than that, because Cheats won't just be bringing out musicians for this shindig. With a performance by the cast of Richmond Comedy Coalition's Coalition Theater, an appearance by local activist Patience Salgado, aka "Kindness Girl," and presentations from various positive local causes including everything from TEDxRVA to The Living Wage Campaign, this evening will offer a lot of different ideas and perspectives, and will challenge you and make you think, while also making you laugh and dance!
Really, RVA Hot Sauce has got it all. If you want to hear the best of the hip hop scene and beyond, if you want to get educated on a variety of issues going on in Richmond right now, if you want to meet cool people and check out the creativity this city has to offer, you owe it to yourself to be at Gallery 5 (200 W. Marshall St) on Sunday, December 8. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and admission is $8 in advance. Advance tickets can be purchased HERE. For more info, click here.
