The TAINT is an incredibly disturbing but funny film made locally by filmmakers Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson. When the water supply is "tainted" by the world's most powerful male performance enhancement drug, it transforms all men into raging, violent misogynists out to kill every woman they see. Phil O'Ginny, the only one not to drink the water, with the help of Misandra and drug creator Ludas must find a way to stop the madness before its too late. Got it? Anyway, the guys were nice enough to agree to a short interview.
RVA: First question is simply, why? Why have you unleashed this film on the masses?
Drew: Hm, murdering women seems to be part of the collective consciousness of young men making movies. Usually, it's subconscious. I wanted to make something about that, but in a way that would be really hard for people to accuse me of doing the same thing. Transcend the misogyny through the misogyny or something like that... I don't know.
Dan: The script was clearly something which could be made and could be awesome.
RVA: What made you finally decide that this was going to be your next project?
Drew: I came up with the title, that was the final thing. It's such a smart-ass/bad joke that worked well. I think I sold the idea to a lot of people based on the title alone.
Dan: I knew I would feel a deep regret if I did not do everything in my power to make the script a reality. There are certain opportunities that come along in life that you have to be stupid to pass down. Helping to make The Taint was one of those opportunities.
RVA: Penis and zombies. There are a lot of both in this movie. Can you give me final penis count and what did you do with the leftover dildos after the shoot? Did you re-gift them for Christmas this year?
Drew: No, I have yet to count. We still have quite a few dildos in a box somewhere.
Dan: Counting penises would be a frame by frame endeavor and somewhat up to opinion. The film depicts some of the penis scenes far too abstractly to ever get a certain number, though hopefully someday someone will try.
RVA: Abortion and the Holocaust, lets discuss. Kidding, how has the reception been to the movie and did your mothers like the final product?
Drew: My mom says she likes it.
Dan: My mother has been surprising supportive now that the movie has gained some attention. I'm not sure either of my parents really understood why I was spending my time on the project or really that there IS a market for it.
RVA: The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, The Piano, and The Taint. My top 5 movies to have the word "The" in the title, how does that make you feel?
Drew: Good?
Dan: Wow.
RVA: By chance, if I wanted to buy the movie where can I get it?
Drew: taintmovie.bigcartel.com
Dan: We now have an HD digital download available as well, here: www.taintmovie.com/store
RVA: What is your next project and should I be afraid?
Drew: I want to make a children's program.
Dan: You should be excited.
