NEXT FRIDAY: The Diamond Center At Couscous

Come to Couscous next Friday, January 21, to check out the first live performance of the new year by The Diamond Center. This psychedelic folk/rock group has been making waves around the Richmond scene since moving hear a year ago from their previous homes in Lubbock, Texas and Athens, Georgia. Their droning, percussion-driven sound is fueled by multiple drummers, but given its undeniable power by the guitar and vocal melodies of co-founders Brandi Price and Kyle Harris. The sounds they make should please lovers of psychedelia in all of its forms, and give an excellent preview for the new music we can expect them to release in the coming year (rumors on the Facebooks give cause to believe that there will at least be an EP on Someday This Will All Make Sense coming sometime in the spring).

During the performance at Couscous, psychedelic projections will be provided by Cosmic Hum, a DJ team made up of Greg Darden and Cherry Bomb's Sara Gossett. Their liquid light projections are done manually, using thrifted overhead projectors and glass plates with colored water and oils, and alternate these shifting images with pictures from vintage magazines. The cumulative effect should take this show beyond a mere musical performance, making it an event that will stimulate all of your senses (even if you haven't eaten any mushrooms beforehand). It should be an evening of excellent entertainment, so mark your calendars now!
