A spirited festival occurred in Richmond's Monroe Park on Jan. 15. Organizers of the event work with the Campaign to Keep Monroe Park Free and Open, which is opposing the city's plans to spend $6.2 million on park renovations and to close the park off for up to 18 months.
Activists say that closing the park would shut homeless people off from the services that they receive in the park. People are demanding that at least 25% of the park remain open during renovations.
