VA Beach native and frequent Richmond visitor DSTRYD took a minute to talk a little bit about his history and his new Moombahton mix Viva Valparaiso.

Bryan: Where did the name DSTRYD come from?
DSTRYD: From a great set of hair and shark teeth....

Bryan: What have been some influences outside of the DJ world that inspire you to do what you do?
DSTRYD: Skateboarding for one. That's always been there for me, even if I leave her for a few months at a time. I would have to say friends, and everything and everyone I encounter.

Bryan: Tell me about your blog. It has a dark overtone. Where does this spring from?
DSTRYD: I don't even know where to begin…I've always been into weird and creepy things, especially when I did art myself. I guess you can say…I'm a cuckoo.

Bryan: How does growing up in VB influence the kind of music you are into?
DSTRYD: I grew up as a big hip-hop head…no one believes me except for the people that lived it with me. That also spawned off in the mid 2000's of me doing hip-hop beats with porn samples. I called it "Pussiusic", it was classic. As of now i see myself getting more and more into moombahton and bringing out the Chilean side of me that no one has really seen. STAY TUNED!

Bryan: Why did you choose to mix the moombahton genre of music?
DSTRYD: Moombahton brought back childhood memories. I grew up in Chile listening to Spanish rock "Los Prisioneros" so its in my background and blood. Mad love to Dave Nada for coming up with such a genius genre. Mad Love for everyone who supports WEOK, and thank you!
