The big star of this event is Richmond's premiere jazz-funk ensemble, No BS Brass Band, who present their first full-length release, No BS!. The album has been available for a week or so on CD, but this show will present the unveiling of the vinyl version, a double LP with a huge poster from RVA artist Nick Kuszyk. CDs are cool I guess, but this is the format in which you really want to own this excellent new release.
Remain is the second of the three Richmond bands with records coming out at this show. Remain play scrappy, melodic punk rock that touches on the sound that was known as emo back before that genre became a buzzword for bands whose records were easiest to find at a mall. Don't get me wrong, I love most modern emo as well, but it's really refreshing to hear a band who still plays the older style with talent and passion. They've previously given away their music for free online, and it doesn't appear that this will change. But for fans who find that mp3s just aren't enough comes this limited edition vinyl release. It's very limited, too--only 150 copies, so if you want one, you'd better get it as soon as you can! The covers to the limited vinyl edition are screen-printed, and will therefore probably look a bit different than what you see above. They'll almost certainly be cooler, too.
Wrist Rocket is normally a solo project from Matt Fisher, who previously played in such Richmond bands as Redemption, Radio War, and Skylines. At this record release show, though, he'll be performing with local pop-punkers Hold Tight! as his backing band, an addition that is sure to bring a whole new dimension to the Wrist Rocket sound. His first LP, Sailing On Seas Of Regret, is a six-song, one-sided affair that alternates between acoustic and electric songs, recorded in a lo-fi fashion that does nothing to diminish their excellence. His debut LP is a joint release by Worthless Junk and another local label, Sink/Swim Press.
