Yeah, that's right guys, metalcore legends-in-their-own-time Attack Attack! will be hitting the stage at the 930 Club later this month, and we've got two tickets to the show to give away! Most people, if they're aware of Attack Attack!, know of them from the "crabcore" internet meme, which was touched off by the bewildered critical response to the video for their 2008 single "Stick Stickly." The admittedly bizarre song, which featured AutoTuned clean vocals, techno breakdowns, and chugging mosh riffs backed up by goth-ish keyboards, nonetheless didn't catch as much attention as the band's spread-legged stage moves, which seemed pretty conventional to anyone who'd been aware of the previous decade of evolution within the metalcore scene. Regardless, Attack Attack! spent a little while having the same WTF reputation as screamo/metalcore rappers Brokencyde.
Unlike Brokencyde, though, lineup changes and subsequent albums have led Attack Attack! in a much more conventional musical direction, and while they aren't quite as meme-worthy now as they were four years ago, they're a much better band as a result. Their third album, This Means War, just dropped a few weeks ago, and they'll be hitting the stage at the 930 Club as part of a full-scale American tour promoting it. While there may not be all that much "crabcore" to be found (most of the guys from that video aren't even in the band anymore), you can expect plenty of heavy riffs and uptempo energy, with the occasional interjection of real (not AutoTuned) melodic vocal parts. It should be a fun show, and the best part is that you could go for free! To enter the drawing, send an email to andrew@rvamag.com with "Attack Attack!" in the subject line. The drawing will be done on the afternoon of Thursday the 16th, so please get your entry to me by noon on that day.

To give you a taste of what you're in for at this show, here's the video for the leadoff single from Attack Attack!'s new album, This Means War. It's called "The Wretched," and it features some pretty excellent shots of gas-masked protesters, fake propaganda posters, and Molotov cocktail explosions, as well as a mildly keyboard-infused but generally pretty goddamn heavy metalcore song with a great chorus. Check it out!
