It's been 6 years since pioneering 90s experimental electronic artists Mouse on Mars released their last studio album, Varcharz. Finding a new label to call home, Mouse on Mars has returned with their 11th full length studio album, entitled Parastrophics. The album, appropriately released on Monkeytown, the label created and run by fellow mindfuck-inducing electronic artists Modeselektor, pushes the limits of electronic creativity to levels that only they can manage.
For those unfamiliar with this more experimental side of electronic music, the glitch sounds that seem to be scattered all over the place are in fact carefully layered over drum samples and synth stabs to create a blend of music that will always find its way back to the beat. Having developed their own music software to create some of the sounds that you hear on Parastrophics, the minds behind Mouse on Mars take the recent crossover success of electronic music and throw it back in your face. Staying true to their experimental roots, Parastrophics serves as a testament to how IDM (intelligent dance music, for all of you new-school cats) should sound.
