WRIR has had quite the journey. In celebrating their seventh year, the station had it’s most prosperous and exciting anniversary party to date. Joining together multiple genres of music as well as several disciplines of performance art, the independent radio station proved its mission statement gloriously. The station is a platform for the voice of this city. Dynamic news programming and eclectic music selection help to culminate the reason why most Richmond citizens don't turn the dial once they hit WRIR.
Today is the beginning of the station’s 2012 Spring Fund Drive. As usual, the station will be kicking things off with a band. The one and only Japanther will be playing at Strange Matter this evening, with support from New York’s Ken South Rock and Filthy Savage, along with Richmond’s Bermuda Triangles. Come meet the voices you hear on the air as they dance along to the rapid tunes occurring all night. If you have had the chance to catch Japanther, you know that you are in store for a spectacular evening of pop music flair.

There are several ways you can make a donation to WRIR. You can give them a ring at 804-622-9747. You can go online to www.wrir.org and make a donation there. The best way to show your love might be dropping by the station at 1621 West Broad Street during Fund Drive hours. While there, you can grab a bite to eat from several of the restaurants that have graciously donated food items or even catch a live act or two. Some of the bands slated to make appearances include League of Space Pirates, Jonathan Vassar, Fire Bison, Paul Ivey and The Rubes, Dead Fame, Occultist, and many more. So if you know what you like and you want to keep hearing it, make a donation to WRIR and let’s keep Richmond’s independent radio alive and well.
