You might say that Ellwood Thompson's, the long-running, locally owned independent grocery store that's been emphasizing local and organic foods for over two decades now, has an intrinsic connection to the mission of Earth Day. Created in the early 70s to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth's natural environment, this holiday's goals neatly dovetail with the mission of Ellwood Thompson's. Therefore it's no surprise to learn that Ellwood's is planning a big event to celebrate Earth Day, which takes place on Sunday, April 22. That day, Ellwood Thompson's will be presenting a host of activities both inside and outside the store, all of which share the common theme: "Love Your Mother." Sunday's schedule of events includes:
10:30am – 3:30pm: Com-Cycle will be doing e-cycling for all of Ellwood Thompson's customers. Customers pay $10 per TV, the rest is FREE to e-cycle! Examples of e-cycling opportunities include: Cell phones, Radios, Light bulbs, Batteries, Computers, VCR’s/DVD players, Telephones, Video Game Devices, Wires/Cords that come with these electronics, etc.
Bring in a product to be e-cycled and get a coupon for $1.50 off of a 16oz Ellwood Thompson’s smoothie!
11am – 3pm: Urban Grid's “Sweet Solar Scoop” will be dishing out ice cream and other sweet treats for everyone – for FREE! Refrigerated completely using solar energy! They’ll also be able to speak to the benefits of alternative energy and answer any questions about the solar panels they installed on the roof of Ellwood Thompson’s.
11am – 3pm: Carytown Bicycle Company will be doing free bike tune-ups and safety checks. Cycling is one huge way to lessen your carbon footprint, and increase your health and overall wellness.
There'll be something for everyone at Ellwood Thompson's this Earth Day, so be sure to come on out on Sunday and take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate Earth Day!
