Here are some brand new videos from the local RVA hip-hop scene, with commentary from Roger Tyler, aka RT of The New Juice Crew. You can check out his work HERE, or catch him on WDCE 90.1 FM, Mondays At 11pm-1am, or WRIR 97.3 FM, 1am to 3 am on Saturday, along with Black Liquid and plenty of other local MCs.
Peter Sun - Jetfire
Local Emcee Peter Sun hits us with his cover of The Notorious BIG’s “10 Crack Commandments.” The visuals were done by No Name No Brain Productions, which is a company you need to look out for if you want some good quality videos. Peter Sun lyrically is one of the best I’ve heard in the RVA. With a flow like chronic and a dope style, Peter Sun definitely is destined to blow up, or roll up. Be on the look out for him and his crew Dope Gang as well.
Handles feat. Mass - Tape Rock
If you want to see a real Hip Hop studio session you need to peep this video, which was shot by BPhresh of Phresh Films. Handles, reigning from the 757, is an artist to look out for. He has accomplishments from performing at A Hampton University Homecoming to being invited to tour with some big names in the industry. I can honestly say his track record speaks for itself and his punchlines are cleaver to the open ear. He also brings fellow native Emcee Mass with him for this banger. It samples The Notorious BIG’s “Juicy” for the hook, quoting the line, "I let my tape rock til my tape pop." This video is definitely considered hip hop because you see what it takes to make a hot song, as stated by Handles in the beginning of the video.
Yung Mane - Mercy
Local Emcee Yung Mane drops some heat on us with his freestyle to Kanye West’s “Mercy” off of his upcoming mixtape, Far From Basic. He'll be having a release party for that mixtape at Kingdom on July 22. This video, which was shot by Aura HD and Imagery, is visually good with hardcore lyrics to match. As hard as Yung Mane works, he is definitely getting a buzz, and is spotlighted on many web sites and other media outlets. He states that he will charge people for features on his songs--with the way his buzz is going, I don’t blame him. Be on the lookout for Yung Mane.
