90s-era space-rock cult heroes FUXA (pronounced fyoo-sha, like the color) have recently returned from a several-year absence with a new album, Electric Sounds Of Summer (Rocket Girl Records), and a US tour that brings them to Strange Matter this Wednesday night! Leader Randall Nieman formed FUXA in 1994 after leaving fellow Midwestern ambient pioneers Windy & Carl, and gathered a loyal following soon afterwards with a prolific sequence of unique and memorable releases. However, Electric Sounds Of Summer is FUXA's first album in over a decade, and perhaps for that reason, Nieman enlisted a wide variety of well-known collaborators for the album's various tracks, including members of Galaxie 500, Luna, Seefeel, Spectrum, Spiritualized, Spacemen 3, and Telescopes, among others. FUXA's work has been influential on modern artists from M83 to Cut Copy, and their new album displays a group at the height of their instrumental prowess. Come check them out at Strange Matter this Wednesday, along with locally-based experimental musicians Caves Caverns, whose somewhat improvised instrumental jams demonstrate strong influence from Chrome, Hawkwind, and a variety of psychedelic substances. Also on the bill is local ambient musician Anduin, the post-Souvenir's Young America solo project of Jonathan Lee, as well as Philadelphia's Kuschty Rye Ergot, a psychedelic folk group featuring members of Kohoutek. For local music fans keeping tabs on the cutting edge of experiemental music, this is a show that should not be missed.

Check out the official video for FUXA's latest single--a cover of The Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed," featuring vocals by Sarah Peacock of Seefeel. Peacock put the video together herself, and it features some pretty interesting visuals. Plus, if it weren't for the vocals, you'd never recognize the song as a cover, so that's interesting too. Take a look!
