Live performance painting is an art form that has been around way before Bob Ross painted his first “happy little tree”, and has grown as medium ever since, distinctly separating itself from plain old painting. These days, inspiration can be hard to come by, so it’s not surprising that visual artists have found new ways of fleshing out their creative juices. With sound as their catalyst and the added element of constant audience scrutiny, these artists put themselves in the spotlight next to musicians to create an exhilarating environment full of aural and visual stimuli.
Put together by Dan Fisk, also one of the musicians participating, Paint The Music is a travelling extravaganza of music, art, and audience members. The idea is to have visual artists create live works inspired by the singer-songwriters, with the audience being the third piece of the puzzle. The hope is to have an across-medium mingling of sight, sound and commentary. At the end of the night, all of the pieces will be sold in a silent auction, with all of the proceeds going directly to the artists.
The event is set to take place at Gallery 5 on Friday, March 8th, and features singer-songwriters Dan Fisk, FarAway, Jared Jones, and Bryce McCormick. Providing the ocular delight will be artists David Bromley, Nikki Galapon, Laura Page and more. For a night full of art, music, mingling and mumbling (all happening simultaneously), Paint The Music is just the event. And be sure to arrive early, because word has it that the opening sequence is truly a sight to behold.
