Bacon has seemingly become America’s favorite breakfast meat in recent years, with popular sitcom characters regularly expressing a penchant for it (I’m looking at you, Ron Swanson). Big name diners like Denny’s recently started serving "bacon sundaes" on their menu along with a slew of other bacon-centered dishes. Clearly, we’re a country that loves bacon, and Richmond is no different.
This point has been proven by the fact that the city will be hosting its first ever Bacon Festival this June. The event is being put on by Brown Distributing and will be held at noon on Sunday, June 9 at the 17th Street Farmers Market in Shockoe Bottom. The event will feature over 20 Richmond restaurants, such as ROX, Halligan’s, TJ’s, and the Naked Onion. These restaurants will be frying up tons of bacon at the event, serving a plethora of different bacon themed dishes.
According to the event’s Facebook invite page, a selection of more than 20 Virginia craft beers from Devils Backbone Brewery and Bold Rock Hard Cider will be served to quench patron’s thirst. Beer tickets will be $6 each, with food priced at $3 a plate. And depending on what you order, a plate could potentially hold a whole lot of bacon.
The full list of featured restaurants and beer being served will be announced soon. Live music and local vendors are expected to be at the event, with more details to be released at a later date. Keep an eye on the 17th Street Farmer's Market facebook page for updates, and start preparing yourself for a day of eating way too much bacon. We'll see you there.
